Hello! I thought this'd be a useful tool for people who want to get a better grasp on things like form, anatomy, proportion, and the like.
The challenge will vary every day, and will ask you to do any of the following;
Every day I'll have a challenge for participants to attempt. No need to sign up, just post if you finish the prompt! Your finished piece will be linked up front with credit (i.e. hyperlinked in a text like "By Gingernose" or something similar). Prompts can be sketched, and may be preferred due to the fact that sketches give a lot of insight to how someone visualizes and plots an image!
I won't be ""judging"" any completed images, but if you'd like feedback or redlining (or something akin to that), I wouldn't mind giving advice - but only if you ask!
Let me know if you've got questions about this.
This challenge focuses on finding an image's light source by studying where the light is coming from and what parts of a subject cast shade.
What you need to do is circle where in the image the light is coming from off-screen and use arrows to show where it's casting light, like so:
(image used)
And afterwards you need to state whether the lighting is cool or warm. Cool tones are blue, green, and purple, while warm tones are red, orange, and yellow.
The example image has warm lighting.

Bonus challenge: Draw an image that uses a light source!
The challenge will vary every day, and will ask you to do any of the following;
- Use a color palette to create an image
- Use a photo reference to understand poses and proportion
- Draw something dependent on a 'theme' given
- Practice different "art" styles (such as lineless, line-only, grayscale, etc.)
- Understand the "rule of thirds" and placement of things in an image
- Use and comprehend light sources and shading
- Implement colors to convey a 'tone'
- And many others!
