Gender:
Female
Rank:
Warrior
Affiliates:
OakClan
Appearance:
Bramblefoot has brown tabby fur that is long, soft, and thick. She has white paws and a white patch on her muzzle that runs from her nose to below her chin. This warrior is just a little on the small side, but makes up for it with her rather lean build and strong back legs. Her eyes are a hazel color and are set between her broad muzzle and slightly rounded ears. There is a large v-shaped notch in her right ear and several little scars running along her flanks.
Picture
Personality:
Bramblefoot is a very dependable and determined warrior. She puts her best effort into her warrior duties and always makes sure that things get done correctly. She is fairly quiet and reserved, preferring to reveal her emotions only to those close to her. However, she is not quick to trust anyone, which means that the pool of close friends whom she has opened up to remains very small. Bramblefoot is very perceptive and observant, making lying to her nearly impossible. Unfortunately, she has also developed a habit of eavesdropping, and is bound to listen in to any conversation she finds interesting. Justice and fair treatment are very important to her. She would readily break the principles of the Warrior Code if it was for the greater good.
Though she is occasionally a little cranky because of trivial annoyances, she can hold true anger back for a long while. If pushed when angry, she can become a very sharp-tongued spitfire. Mockery of her or her Clan, and injustice are two things that really ruffle her fur and are likely to bring out her rage.
In the face of danger, Bramblefoot tries to keep a calm facade. Inside however, she is easily frightened and honestly is a bit of a coward. She tries to quell her fears and make protecting her clan her number one priority. Admittedly, if a situation becomes a losing battle, she would much rather retreat and forsake pride in order to save her clanmates or herself. She has a big fear of injury, as well as a fear of illness. She always gives the medicine cat den a wide berth.
Although she was raised by a very faithful mother, Bramblefoot was never able to believe in StarClan. She thinks that there's something out there - StarClan just isn't it.
Skills:
As indicated by her name, Bramblefoot has an extraordinary running ability. She is also relatively light on her feet, as she has to weave around trees and undergrowth in order to run in OakClan territory. She is fairly average when it comes to fighting, but she prefers to dodge attacks and tire out her opponent while landing few good blows rather than blaze through the battlefield. This warrior is a horrid tracker and as a result, she has difficulties tracking down cats and hunting any prey she can't see right away. Bramblefoot taught herself to swim when she was an apprentice, though she still struggles to stay afloat in deeper and/or more turbulent waters.
History:
Bramblekit was the only kit in her litter, born to an OakClan queen named Foxtail and an unknown father. Her mother was very doting and caring, but a little overprotective at times. Foxtail's concern for her only kit led her to keep Bramblekit inside the nursery a tad too much and, though unintentional, her mother's constant worrying for her safety instilled some deep fears of the world that Bramblefoot is still unable to shake off today. Bramblefoot didn't have the opportunity to interact with siblings due to being the only kit in her litter, but the once extroverted and peppy kit befriended many of the other kits in the nursery. They would play games, chase feathers and leaves, and would often get caught taking secret trips out of the nursery while their mothers were sleeping.
Bramblekit became Bramblepaw at 6 moons, and was apprenticed to a she-cat named Mudtail. The apprentice often disagreed with her mentor's instruction, and would break rules that didn't make enough sense to her. Many times she was caught hunting for prey in another Clan's territory, or eating before the elders. Once, she was caught assisting a sick and hungry loner while OakClan was going through a period of low prey.
After learning that breaking rules meant she was destined for tick duty and staying at the camp during gatherings, she began to follow the warrior code a little more strictly.
Bramblepaw's mother, Foxtail, had a specific dream about Bramblepaw's future - get a good mentor, become a skilled warrior, mentor an apprentice or two, and find a nice tom with whom she would start a family. During her apprenticeship, Foxtail put pressure on Bramblepaw to live up to her specific expectations. The apprentice focused even more on her training in an attempt to please her, but the constant pressure just served to further distance Bramblepaw from her mother. Bramblepaw became a lot more reserved and detached in general during this time.
About halfway through her apprenticeship, Bramblepaw befriended a sweet and friendly she-cat named Silverpaw. They were the best of friends, always teaming up on hunting patrols and during training sessions. They spent almost every waking moment together, and it wasn't long until Bramblepaw fell for the silver-furred she-cat. Bramblepaw believed her feelings to be unrequited, so she never acted on them. However, moons later, Silverpaw confessed her feelings to Bramblepaw while they were out on a hunting patrol.
Foxtail passed away during her second kitting later on in Bramblepaw's apprenticeship, leaving Bramblepaw as the only remaining family to her little sister, Honeykit. Though she grieved for moons, Bramblepaw was eventually able to get past it, and began to spend as much time as possible with Honeykit.
At 18 moons, Bramblepaw became Bramblefoot, her suffix reflecting her exceptional speed and running ability. Her early warrior days were some of the best times of her life. She was determined and ambitious, with a goal to become a great warrior, and maybe even deputy one day. Silverpaw earned her warrior name - Silverfur - a few moons after Bramblefoot. Silverfur brought out the best in Bramblefoot, and was even able to assist Bramblefoot in beginning to get over her fears and become a little less standoffish. They both made great strides in their abilities as warriors. A few moons later, Honeykit became Honeypaw, and Bramblefoot was given the opportunity to be the mentor to her little sister. After mentoring her for 12 moons, Bramblefoot was delighted when Honeypaw was given her warrior name - Honeywhisker.
Unfortunately, the good times didn't last. During one particularly dry green-leaf, a forest fire started near the edge of OakClan territory. The cats quickly evacuated from the camp, and a group of cats containing Bramblefoot, Silverfur, and two other warriors was sent out to retrieve the hunting patrol that was last seen in an area dangerously close to the fire. They came across one of the warriors in the woods, who told them that Bramblefoot's sister, Honeywhisker, and another cat were stuck in a clearing surrounded by the burning forest, and he was unable to get through to rescue them. Bramblefoot and the rest of the patrol ran to their location, but upon coming face to face with the fire, Bramblefoot was stricken with terror. She was unable to move closer in order to save her sister. Silverfur saw this and ran ahead instead, managing to leap through a gap in the flames. A burning tree fell into the clearing before they could make it out, killing both Honeywhisker and Silverfur.
Bramblefoot was grief-stricken. She had lost her only remaining family member, and the only cat with whom she had ever fallen in love. She had no motivation to do much of anything, and was a pretty useless warrior for a while. She blamed herself for what happened. She thought that if she hadn't frozen in fear, she could have saved Honeywhisker and spared Silverfur's life. Horrible dreams of fire and the smell of burning fur haunted Bramblefoot for moons on end.
After nearly an entire season and a half, she again began to focus on her warrior duties. She put all her effort and time into them, volunteering for every patrol she could and even assisting the nursery queens and elders when she had no other duties to attend to. It distracted her from thinking about what had happened.
Bramblefoot was later able to accept it, and tried to put it behind her. She continued to work hard, but didn't make herself endure the amount of work she had before. She further enhanced her running ability and made some improvements on her substandard hunting and fighting skills. Bramblefoot decided to not let her fears control her any longer, and over time became a very determined, focused cat.
